How to Put Quota Numbers on a Sales Resume
Put quota numbers in the first bullet under every sales role, using one formula: attainment percentage, quota size in dollars, the period, and your rank if you have it. For example, "Closed $1.2M against a $1M annual quota (120%), ranked 3rd of 22 AEs." Show two or three years so hiring managers see a pattern, not a lucky year.
What quota numbers do hiring managers look for?
A sales hiring manager spends seconds on the first pass and looks for the same things every time:
- Attainment percentage for each year or period.
- Quota size in dollars, so the percentage has scale. 140% of $200K and 140% of $1.5M are different jobs.
- Rank or stack position, such as "2nd of 18 reps" or "top 10% of the team."
- Deal size and sales cycle, so they can tell if your motion matches theirs.
- Segment and buyer: SMB, mid-market or enterprise, and who you sold to.
What is the best formula for a quota bullet?
Use this order: result + quota + period + context. Start with the verb and the dollars, then the percentage, then what makes it impressive.
Example: Closed $1.38M in new ARR against a $1.1M annual quota (125%), ranked 2nd of 19 AEs, selling compliance software to mid-market finance teams.
What do strong quota bullets look like by role?
Account Executive
- Hit 112%, 118% and 131% of a $950K annual quota from 2023 to 2025, averaging a $48K deal size on a 60-day cycle.
- Closed the largest new logo in company history ($410K ACV) with a regional bank, part of a 127% year.
SDR or BDR
- Booked 168 qualified meetings against a 144 annual target (117%), generating $2.3M in sourced pipeline.
- Promoted to senior SDR after five straight quarters above 110% of meeting quota.
Account Manager or Customer Success
- Delivered 108% of a $3M renewal and expansion target, with 115% net revenue retention across 60 mid-market accounts.
- Expanded three accounts by more than $100K each through multi-product upsells.
Sales Manager
- Led a team of 8 AEs to 109% of a $7.6M team quota, with 6 of 8 reps at or above plan.
Where should quota numbers go on the resume?
- Summary line at the top: one sentence with your best multi-year number. "Mid-market AE, 3 straight years above 110% of quota."
- First bullet of every role: the attainment line, before responsibilities.
- LinkedIn headline and About: repeat the same number so it matches.
- Every outreach email: one number in the subject or first line. See the sales layoff plan for an example email built around a quota number.
Write numbers as digits, not words, and use plain formats like "120%" and "$1.2M". It reads faster for people and parses cleanly in applicant tracking systems, as covered in how to beat the ATS black hole.
What if you missed quota?
Do not invent or round up. Numbers get checked in interviews and sometimes with past managers. Instead, show the strongest true number you have:
- Rank against the team: "92% of quota, ranked 3rd of 15 in a year when the team averaged 71%."
- Best period: a strong quarter or half, labeled clearly as that period.
- Year over year growth: "Grew territory revenue 34% year over year."
- Pipeline, deal size or win rate: "Raised win rate from 18% to 27%" or "Increased average deal size 40%."
- Context, briefly: a new territory, a mid-year quota increase or a product change. One line, no excuses.
What mistakes make quota numbers less convincing?
- Percentages with no dollars. "150% of quota" alone makes readers wonder how big the quota was.
- Only your best year. One great year and two silent ones looks like you are hiding something.
- Vague words. "Consistently exceeded targets" with no number reads as filler. See why you might not be getting interviews for more resume fixes.
- Numbers that do not match LinkedIn. Mismatches are an easy reason to pass.
- Sharing confidential company totals. Your own attainment and deal sizes are fine. Your employer's total revenue or customer names under NDA are not.

Should I include quota attainment on my sales resume?
Yes. Attainment is the first thing most sales hiring managers look for. Put it in the first bullet of each role, with the percentage, the quota in dollars, the period and your rank if you have it.
How do I show quota on a resume if I missed it?
Use the strongest true number: your rank against the team, your best quarter, year over year growth, win rate or deal size improvements. Add one line of context such as a new territory or a mid-year quota increase. Never inflate the number.
Should I list quota as a percentage or a dollar amount?
Both. The percentage shows performance and the dollar amount shows scale. "Closed $1.2M against a $1M quota (120%)" tells a hiring manager far more than either number alone.
How many years of quota numbers should I show?
Two or three years is ideal. A multi-year pattern proves consistency, which matters more to hiring managers than one standout year.
Can a hiring manager verify my quota numbers?
They often probe them in interviews and may ask past managers during reference checks. Some ask for commission statements or stack rankings. Only list numbers you can explain and back up.
